Friedrich retreats to Krippen (Saxony), Sommer 1813

Presumably to avoid being in French-occupied Dresden, he stays with friends in the village of Krippen in the Sandstone Mountains near the Bohemian border and produces many nature drawings during this period.

The stated period only reflects those dates that are securely documented by historical records (e.g. letters and drawings). Friedrich’s actual length of stay may well have been longer or included locations that remain unknown to us.
