The Hamburger Kunstverein exhibits The Sea of Ice, The Watzmann, and Hutten’s Grave, 1826

It will be another 40 years before the founding of the Hamburger Kunsthalle, in 1869. Its founding director, Alfred Lichtwark, will acquire its first Friedrich works directly from the Friedrich family, in 1904: Meadows by Greifswald and Mountain Landscape in Bohemia.
